Events

A.S.I.A. is most famous for hosting its annual Asian Night, a talent show with performances from BLS students. Additionally, we host other events each month. Some of our monthly events are regular and annual, such as Sushirama, a Japanese event in October where members learn to make and eat their own sushi and onigiri; Holiday Sing-Off, a musical talent performance and competition in December; Korean Kuisine, a Korean culture event in January; and our Beach Event in June, where members and officers go to the beach on the last day of school.

Aside from these regular events, A.S.I.A. hosts a variety of other events almost every month. These include cultural events where we learn about the the cultures of different Asian and host activities inspired by them. In past years, we have held events such as the “Festival of Colors”, an Indian events where we painted a mural together; “Kite Me Up”, a Malaysian events where we made kites; and “Halo Halo It’s Me”, a Filipino event where we made Halo Halo desserts.

Additionally, some of our monthly events focus on Asian-American culture and identity. These are interactive and educational workshops or lectures focused around the Asian-American experience today as well as throughout history. For some of these events, we also welcome outside professors and speakers. Recently we held the "Dark Side of Skin-Whitening" workshop in collaboration with BLS Desi and Filipino Club to teach more people about the dangers of skin whitening.
